Description

Magazine published on the occasion of the exhibition Therapy , presented at Malba between March 19 and August 16, 2021.

This magazine presents, through testimonies and documents, four experiences related to psychoanalytic practice. The selected materials include: an important passage from the celebrated interview between the legendary APA founding member, Enrique Pichon-Rivière, and the writer Vicente Zito Lema; the fictionalized account of a therapeutic situation by the contemporary artist Marisa Rubio through the heteronym Naranja Milano Questa; a logbook of the unconscious and everyday musings written by the painter Martha Peluffo; and a conversation about the disappearance of the space of power of masculinity between the Argentine artist based in New York, Nicolás Guagnini, and the art historian, critic and curator David Joselit.

"The materials selected for this magazine, which accompanies the exhibition project 'Therapy,' encompass an important passage from the now-famous interview between the legendary APA founding member Enrique Pichon-Rivière and the writer Vicente Zito Lema; the fictionalized account of a therapeutic situation by contemporary artist Marisa Rubio through the heteronym Naranja Milano Questa; the logbook of the unconscious and everyday musings written by the then-young painter Martha Peluffo; and a conversation about the disappearance of masculine power between the Argentine artist based in New York, Nicolás Guagnini, and the art historian, critic, and curator David Joselit. These works intersect lines of thought that constitute the hypostasis of Freudian-based therapy across a vast temporal arc." Without intending to illustrate the modern psychoanalytic impulse that continues to dominate urban society in the Río de la Plata region since the last century, this collection of documents is an invitation to readers to answer, through art, the question of why Argentina continues to be the country most prone to practicing Freudian-style therapies in the world. —Gabriela Rangel
