Description
Siqueiros: Muralism, cinema and revolution proposes a rigorous and committed analysis of a work that constitutes a rarity in the history of muralism and the international avant-garde.
David Alfaro Siqueiros' mural , Ejercicio plástico (1933), is a masterpiece of Latin American art and can now be admired in its new location at the Casa Rosada Museum. Its history encompasses clandestine love affairs, revolutionary aspirations, financial and political interests, and a long legal battle. But far from simply decorating the basement of a Buenos Aires estate, through Ejercicio plástico the Mexican artist focused on analyzing visual problems and forging a closer relationship between art and technology. He created a veritable machine of perception, anticipating kinetic art, installation art, and site-specific art; he produced a work with few precedents in the history of art and no derivative works.
