Description
Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) was one of the great innovators of modern art and a central figure of Post-Impressionism. A painter, sculptor, designer, and collector, he led the Pont-Aven School and broke with the principles of Impressionism to explore a bolder language of form and color. After training with Camille Pissarro, he embarked on an intense artistic quest that took him from Brittany to the distant Pacific islands, driven by a desire to find a purer, wilder expression of art. His work, marked by symbolism and exoticism, left an indelible mark on the development of 20th-century painting.
