Description
Catalogue of the exhibition Hélio Oiticica — Neville D'Almeida. CC - Program in progress , presented at Malba between November 25, 2005 and January 31, 2066.
The program in progress , curated by César Oiticica Filho, the artist's nephew, exhibits four of the eight Cosmococas that the artist conceived in the 1970s with Neville D'Almeida while living in New York. These are a group of installations with slide projections and soundtracks, created with the idea of renewing and activating cinematic language, proposing playful environments in which viewers become participants in a sensory experience. They are also a reflection on contemporary music and pop culture; each one is dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, Jimi Hendrix, Luis Buñuel, and Yoko Ono.
The pieces synthesize several of Oiticica's fundamental concerns: the dissolution of the traditionally passive relationship between the cinematic image and the spectator; the link between still and moving images, between art and popular culture; the participation of the public in the work; the integration of art and life into a higher experience; the articulation of subjectivity and modes of production, and also the problem of the reconfiguration of space.
