About Project Street
CALLE is a photographic project carried out by people who live on the streets of Buenos Aires.
Each person received a camera—with 27 exposures—for a period of 15 days, to then return it in order to develop the film and copy the photos.
The project's objective was to give them the opportunity to record their intimate life experiences in the city.
The encounters with each of them began organically, in public spaces: plazas, churches, street corners. Over time, various charitable organizations that provide services to people experiencing homelessness (shelters, soup kitchens, community centers) joined the project, where collective exhibitions and workshops were held, allowing each photographer to share their work. For 17 years, 366 disposable cameras were distributed to 403 people, 4,656 photos were developed, and for this project, only 80 photos by 80 photographers were selected.
The photo titles were chosen by the photographer; many signed their names, while others preferred not to. Each photo includes a reference to the neighborhood where it was taken. They are photos of our city.
For them, in addition to being photos of their city, they are photos of their home.
