Description
Art Nouveau is the artistic renewal that developed at the turn of the 20th century. It marked the fin de siècle or the Belle Époque. Depending on the country, it was known as "Art Nouveau" in Belgium and France; "Jugendstil" in Germany and the Nordic countries; "Sezession" in Austria; "Modern Style" in the United Kingdom; "Nieuwe Kunst" in the Netherlands; "Liberty" or "Floreale" in Italy; and "Modernismo" in Spain. All of these names refer to the intention of creating a new, youthful, free, and modern art. Once again, as with all movements, it represented a break with the past, guided by a clear idea: "the future has already begun."
