Since no introduction to the author's personality and work is necessary, it can be stated that the broad didactic spirit of the great departed master is poured here with all its polemical and renewing impetus, as expressed in the words with which, as a preface, this work begins:

"Today I am addressing you, at the request of some of your colleagues, in order to break down the barrier of ages and enter into friendly contact and, also, with the purpose of dispelling too many misunderstandings sustained by people interested in our disagreement; leaving aside malice, we will consider that we are animated by the same faith in construction: you with your thirst for learning, I with an equally great ardor, supported by an experience of forty years and predisposed more than ever to discoveries."
This book discusses climate, site, scale, sense of movement, housing, ultimately achieving a definition of what architecture meant to him.
"Good architecture," he tells us , "is walked and explored, both inside and out... it is living architecture."

This message to the students is complemented by his essay "If I Had to Teach You Architecture ," which has undoubtedly become an irreplaceable resource for anyone interested in the problems of teaching architectural design.
