Description
Catalogue of the Liliana Porter exhibition. Journey , presented at Malba between July 12 and October 13, 2025.
Travesía is the publication produced to accompany the retrospective exhibition of Liliana Porter (Buenos Aires, 1941) presented at Malba. Edited by Agustín Pérez Rubio, its curator, it offers a comprehensive overview of the themes that run through Porter's work, organized into thematic chapters that address narrative as a form of knowledge, the interplay of representation, the critique of violence, the passage of time, and the possibility of reparation.
In addition to images of the pieces included in the exhibition and gallery views at Malba, the book includes reproductions of a wide selection of other works by the artist, thus providing an overview of her extensive career. The volume also brings together a substantial collection of texts that, including the curatorial essay, specially commissioned essays—by Mariana Obersztern and Humberto Moro—and historical texts republished here—by Inés Katzenstein, Graciela Speranza, and Ricardo Martín-Crosa (1927–1993)—enrich the body of critical scholarship on Porter's work.
“The act of tearing papers from the wall in Arruga has become more complex, evolving into its characters, its cast of figurines that now wander, with their dramas, traumas, or hilarious scenes, through the corridors and rooms of this Journey at Malba. They are the ones who carry with them many of the themes, interests, and activities of the artist throughout more than sixty years of her career, leaving an immeasurable wealth of lessons for a whole series of Argentine, Latin American, and international artists.” —Agustín Pérez Rubio
