“Vásquez de la Horra’s insistence on deepening the uses and knowledge of drawing is no accident. To address such intimate and existential themes as the celebration of life, the fear of death, transcendence, the polysemy of words, the cycles of nature, domesticity, and the absurdity and diversity of human bodies, is there any other language as generous, versatile, and with which almost anyone can establish some kind of relationship—even if it is one of displeasure—as drawing? (…) May Vásquez de la Horra’s work make us realize how the ancient technique of drawing continues to allow one to build a solid, inventive, and experimental career in the visual arts. We look at his images and surrender to their details. When it comes to desire, we are not afraid, if necessary, to plunge into the depths of a volcanic eruption.” —Raphael Fonseca.
