In this lecture entitled Feminisms: Pending Debates , anthropologist and activist Rita Segato explores, in a direct and uncompromising style, some of the tensions currently expressed in the thinking of the feminist movement, such as the rhetoric of politics, the role of the State as guarantor of women's rights, summary lynching, and the participation of men in the feminist struggle.
Rita Segato was born in Argentina. She is an anthropologist, academic, and feminist activist. She lived for over 20 years in Brazil, where she developed part of her academic work and writing career. She earned her Master of Arts degree (1978) and Ph.D. (1984) from the Department of Social Anthropology at Queen's University Belfast. She is Professor Emerita at the University of Brasília. In 2019, UNSAM (Argentina) established the Rita Segato Chair of Uncomfortable Thought. She currently lives in the city of Tilcara, Argentina.
