Description
Catalogue of the exhibition Lucrecia Lionti. Fabril la mirada , presented at Malba between March 14 and June 16, 2025.
For over 15 years, Lucrecia Lionti (Tucumán, 1985) has situated her work at the convergence of art history and artisanal practices, critically exploring the relationship between abstraction and the autonomy of materials. Her work draws on the grand narratives of modern art to question them, transferring the languages of conceptual art to the popular imagination and of abstract art to crafts. Fabril la mirada (The Gaze of Factory) is the artist's first solo museum exhibition and presents textile installations created specifically for the occasion alongside a series of works on paper produced between 2012 and 2017 that serve as testimonies to her experimentation.
This publication traces Lionti's career and explores the unique aspects of her work through a rich selection and carefully curated reproduction of her pieces. The images are accompanied by texts from the project's curator, Carla Barbero, two specially commissioned essays by Carlos Huffmann and Carlota Beltrame, and a chronology of the artist's life.
“If for modern art autonomy was a virtue—that is, the idea that art should exist by a will as far removed as possible from a reality that dared to render the aesthetic object useful—Lionti takes up this premise, but shifts it toward popular languages, crafts, school education, and media culture. In these shifts, his images become charged with a vociferous yet sentimental force.” —Carla Barbero
