Shhhiii... This is the first retrospective exhibition of Anna Maria Maiolino's work in Argentina. Curated by Paulo Miyada and initially presented at the Tomie Ohtake Institute in São Paulo between May and July 2022, the exhibition brings together nearly two hundred works and is the result of three years of research and many hours of conversation and exchange with the artist. Conceived as a spiral, it does not follow a linear chronology, but rather traverses, in different ways, the stages of her career and the diverse media she has worked with, from the late 1970s to the present. It also recovers significant moments and events from Maiolino's "life-work," as she herself termed her lived experience. It is an invitation to engagement, highlighting the artist's encounters with multiple forms of otherness.

The accompanying catalogue adds another layer to this spiraling journey. With an introductory essay by curator Paulo Miyada, it intersperses reproductions of artworks with documents, poems, projects, writings, photographs, and sketches by Maiolino. Presenting an artist with a unique life and body of work in such depth and in an unprecedented way, building bridges so that diverse audiences can engage with her creations, processes, and experiences, reflects a shared commitment of the Tomie Ohtake Institute and Malba, which with this project continue the institutional collaboration previously established for the solo exhibitions of Yoko Ono and Yayoi Kusama.
