Description

Catalogue of the exhibition Garabito. The donation , presented at Malba between March 28 and June 9, 2014.

A draftsman, painter, and sculptor, a leading figure in the Argentine art scene since the second half of the 20th century, Ricardo Garabito (Trenque Lauquen, Buenos Aires, 1930) donated a collection of 31 works created between 1965 and 2007 to Malba. His unprecedented and generous gesture represented an enormous contribution to the institution's mission of preserving and promoting Argentine and Latin American art, and led to an exhibition that resulted in the publication of this catalogue.

The book reproduces 13 paintings, 6 drawings, and 12 sculptures that comprised the donation, representative of the artist's unique style: a studio painter in the academic tradition, a master of composition supported by precise drawing and color that complements and invigorates, his keen eye is as full of humor and irony as it is of love for the objects that interest him. The selection of pieces was made by Marcelo E. Pacheco in collaboration with the artist himself, and the book's conception benefited from the ongoing advice of Juan Carlos Distéfano, his close personal friend.
