Description

Catalogue of the exhibition C-32 Branch. The Ene at Malba , presented at Malba between August 8 and October 13, 2014.

As the 32nd installment of its "Contemporary" program, dedicated to current local and regional art, Malba presented an exhibition dedicated to La Ene, Nuevo Museo Energía de Arte Contemporáneo (New Energy Museum of Contemporary Art), a museum project of institutional critique founded in 2010 in Buenos Aires. This publication was produced to accompany the exhibition, conceived as a temporary relocation of La Ene's activities to Malba's space. It consisted of displaying La Ene's collection—comprising 16 pieces—and its archive, as well as a series of workshops, interventions, and residencies carried out jointly by both institutions.

The catalogue is the first publication dedicated to La Ene, and it serves both as a record of its collection—post-objectual pieces stored only virtually, in the form of instructions for their reproduction—and as a compendium of the activities carried out from its founding in 2010 until 2014. Introduced by three authorial texts—a presentation by Victoria Giraudo, a curatorial text by the members of La Ene, and a poetic-conceptual text specially commissioned from curator Pablo León de la Barra—the book addresses La Ene's collection—with reproductions of the pieces produced for the exhibition at Malba—, the history of its exhibitions—with images of gallery views in various spaces—, and exchanges with other institutions, especially artist residencies. All images are accompanied by informative texts about each project.

“La Ene is not an answer, but many questions: How to have a collection without a storage facility? How to be political without being a proselytizer? How to be a critical and self-reflective institution? How to build a collection given physical limitations but with the possibilities of memory? This New Museum promotes acting outside of established institutions to create its own and propose ideas when all ears are deaf.” —La Ene
