Description
Carolina Ruival's photography is a solitary journey. In each image, she searches within herself more than without for what she seeks to reveal. She began to conceive this book to give voice to what is essential, to a stifled cry of vulnerability. Her photographs are the inherent response to her determination, the urgency to consciously engage with what lies before her. Each shot brings both relief and a brutal blow to her own intimacy, a blow that is also reflected in her writing.
Carolina merges with her surroundings, presenting them as a map of her own being—serene, benevolent, at one with silence—in that solemn place where time seems to slow down. Through the use of collage, she found her own unique vision of the world, which proved to be a catalyst for reflection and interpretation that transcends mere aesthetics.
Iruya is a story told in the first person, which absorbed the strength of her commitment to the people who inhabit this sacred land and where she photographed her own shadow, as an invisible witness in the imperturbable mountain full of ancestral meanings.
