Not everyone knows that Alfredo Hlito, long recognized as one of the most profound and least accommodating contemporary painters, was also a great writer. In his case, it wasn't merely a complementary activity; rather, as he himself expressed it, and as he demonstrated from the beginning, both painting and writing were the two facets of his unique personality, endowed not only with a solid education but also with an enviable capacity for reasoning and expression, as evidenced from his earliest writings in his youth, when he was one of the few theorists of Concrete-Invention Art , a key movement of the Argentine avant-garde in the 1940s.

The poet Rodolfo Alonso, a personal friend of his, undertook the task of reviewing, preparing, and writing the prologue for all the unpublished documents of a creator of his stature. This edition offers, in a careful and chronologically ordered manner, not only his texts intended in one way or another for eventual dissemination—which has never materialized to this day—but also his private diaries, the personal reflections and revelations of a first-rate aesthetic and intellectual adventure.
